Bio

I’m an artist who has been hooked on photography since catching my first whiff of Polaroid peel-apart film as a child. Watching layers of plastic, chemicals, and paper combine to slowly reveal a captured moment was nothing short of magical. The paper seemed alive!

Years have passed, yet I still see life in all things. My fascination with the parallels between who we are and what we make leads me to create work which features inanimate objects serving as metaphors for the experiences of the conscious. These layered stories are the instant film of my youth brought into the present.

A lifelong New Englander, I balance my fast paced career in Information Technology with a quiet home in a small, seaside town near Cape Cod.

Artist Statement

As long as I can remember, I’ve always been an explorer and a builder who embraces challenges. Art connects those characteristics in the pursuit of storytelling. Visually expressing the personal thoughts and feelings inspired by the places I explore is both the intent and challenge of my photography.

To meet that challenge, I turn to the builder within. My methods include photographing with intention and combining images into thematic portfolios, using the digital darkroom to creatively modify captured scenes, making prints reminiscent of past photographic processes, and finally, presenting the work in both traditional and innovative ways.

Intuition guides my work from conception through execution. Flashes of inspiration occur spontaneously as I explore the world around me. Once I’ve identified a concept I’d like to express artistically, an invisible hand guides me in building the work. To quote Sol Lewitt, “The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.”

With my subconscious mind playing such an important role in my art, the experience is one of exploration. When I follow my instincts and then observe the result, I’m learning about myself. For me, the process of making art is also the reward.
