The beach isn’t just a place, it’s a cultural metaphor. The expression, “a day at the beach” is synonymous with joyful tranquility. Millions flock to beaches every year for fun in the sun.
Beach trips are often described as an “escape” or a “respite”. When we go the beach, we’re getting away from something as well. To me, these photographs of beaches in the offseason represent what we’re leaving behind.
